Typically that means that the gear set had been setup to tight. You will have to disassemble the rear end and correct the gear lash and pinion depth.

depending on the differential, make sure that the recommended fluids are in the diff. maybe replace the gear set in the rear differential if it is old.

I you are having this particular problem all the time you should have this rear whine changed all the time.
