You need to apply for your renewal in the same manner and same documentation with which you applied for your initial visa at the US (or Canadian) Embassy or Consulate. You will still need documentation from your employer that you are invited to work with them- this is not a blanket visa that applies to any company.

To renew an expired H-1B visa, or specialized work visa, you must go to through the same process that you went through at your country's embassy to obtain the visa to begin with, filling out renewal paperwork instead.
