You really need to call a local chimney sweep or fireplace company for this. They have the tools to reach down (or up) to remove the dead critter.

Smoke it out. No, but in all seriousness, it may end up posing a health hazard as it starts decomposing. You want to have it removed as quickly as possible. Unless you have tongs and a long stick, call professionals.

You should use something that can either push it down or up and out of the fireplace and then sanatize and deodorize the area as much as possible.

To remove a dead animal from your fireplace you will need gloves, kind of mask (if it stinks) and just take it from there.
