Go to the Window menu. Choose Arrange Tile. Put both documents side by side. Click on the File that you want to move pages from. open your pages palette. Drag pages you want to move into the document where you want them to be placed.

It's very easy to merge two inDesign documents. You can select the pages from the pages from the document preview area, and right click them to copy them. Then, go to your second document, and pase them in. You can then drag and drop them to the correct order that you wish.

In Adobe inDesign, you can place an already created inDesign file as a picture into another inDesign file. If you want it to be editable, you will have to release all master page items on all pages. Make a page size box on each page with fill or stroke. Then copy an paste each page placing at a zero coordinate.

Rather than merging the two files, it would be best to select all the layers in one file, and drag and drop them into the other.

Open both documents you want to merge. Go to the Window menu. Choose arrange and then Title. It will put the documents side by side. Go to the file menu of the file you want to move pages from. Open the pages palette. Select the pages to be moved and drag the document where you want it to be placed.

This should be possible over the book function. The only thing you should watch out is, that different style stettings aren't synchronized.
