How do I make the checkerboard pattern?

Mark the outside of a square at equal distances to divide each side into 8 lengths. Draw lines across to the opposite parallel side. This makes the 64 checkerboard squares.

A checkerboard pattern is very easy. All you need are squares of alternating colors or patterns, and then just alternate them in a row. When you get to the next row, start it on a pattern different square from what you started the previous row on.
