A pre-diabetic condition is determined by blood work, including a fasting blood sugar and a glucose tolerance test. With these test results, your physician can determine your body's ability to manage blood sugar. You doctor will talk to you about lifestyle and dietary habits, both of which play a large part in problems with blood sugar levels.

Take notice of moodiness before meals, the urge to have sugars or carbs and not being able to function until you have them, as well as dizziness and faintness upon consuming too many sugars or carbs. Dry mouth consistently can be a serious warning sign.

When you start having fasting blood sugar levels between 90-100. Although these levels are still within normal range, they are high for not having had food in more then 6 hours and should discuss with your Doctor to get further testing.

There are no obvious symptoms except for obesity. Insulin resistance is also a common sign. There are simple tests that check your age/height/weight and evaluate your risk.

When the doctor gives a routine blood test, sugar is tested. If your sugar is high he will tell you to watch your carbs. (sweets, breads, rice and pasta)

Pre-diabetes is actually a clinically defined elevated fasting blood glucose range of 100-125 mg/dL instead of the normal range of 80-100 mg/dL. Above 125 is full-blown diabetes. You can test in the same way that your physician would by using a glucosemeter and testing strips available in any pharmacy. Test multiple occasions when you haven't eaten for several hours beforehand.
