The easiest way to help it is to make a solution of soap and water and spray it on the tree, but be careful to make it weak.

You can apply an insecticide, such as kelthane or malathion; treatments should continue for several weeks. Spraying your tree with water can help remove culprits. Soap sprays work well if you prefer organic remedies. Spray regularly to keep mites away.

White birch tree is particularly infected by diesease known as "witch Knots" or "witches Brooms" which is caused by very minute gall-mite "phytoptus" which attacks the young budes and to prevent this diesease we suggest to burn all the effected part.

You will have to go to a nursery and ask them questions, or get a book on trees it might help.
