if it is showing signs of infection, will he let you clip the fur from around the area? then bath the area with warm salty water (1 tsp salt = 1 cup water), hibertane and cotton wool (Gauze is better)at least once a day. If it does not clear, visit your vet.

You should wear gloves and use warm water to gently flush. You can apply Neosporin but don't let the cat lick it! If the wound is deep or large, it will probably need stitches. If the wound is infected, you should take the cat to the vet. The cat may have a bacterial infection that is contagious to people.

Ordinary first aid should be used. Clean with gentle cleansers and warm water. Be kind and gentle, as fright and anxiety are the worst complications. Place a bandage over the wound once it is cleaned thoroughly. The cat may lick or scratch at it, so re-apply the bandages as needed. See a vet if infection develops.

The easiest way is to wrap a towel around the cat, making sure their feet are covered, and have someone hold the cat while you treat the wound.

You want to clean the wound with warm water and peroxide, then apply topical antibiotics 2-3 times per day. You might need to wrap the cat in a towel prior to doing this to avoid injury to you. Bag Balm is helpful in promoting healing.
