There is a product on the market called Nature's Miracle and can be found at most pet stores. Use it according to instructions and the odor magically disappears!

As a cat owner I know it takes a carpet cleaner to get rid of the smell from the carpet and from the furniture you need upholstry cleaner or you can just try to mask the odor with fabric sprays and lots of odor eating carpet powders that you sprinkle and then vacuum up.

Clean and dry the surface first. No deodorizer will work on a dirty surface. The most practical product you can try is a Fabric Freshener like Ferbreeze made for removing pet odor. You can find this in your local Grocery Store. A generic version is also available in Dollar Discount Stores. Pet Stores also sell specialized pet deodorizers.

If you're smelling it now it's too late to spray anything on it to get rid of the smell. Spray the spot with cleanser thoroughly as soon as you see it to get rid of it. If it's not clean enough you're going to need to get new furniture and new carpet or it WILL NOT go away.
