How do I factor completely a monomial?

I am having the hardest time with my advanced math home work and with understanding monomial factors.

completing a monomial is an easy task just divide both sides of the equation by the constant of the variable term. For example 5x = 10, dvide bot sides by 5 and you get x=2

You have to break it up by taking out the prime numbers. Then take out the powers multiplied by the variables. These numbers and variable can then be recombined.
