The upside down e is called a schwa. You can create one in Microsoft works by holding down the Alt key and typing on your numerical pad the numbers 0399 at the same time. Alt+0399.

To enter unicode characters in microsoft products, you can typically enter the hex value for the character and then press alt-x. To create the schwa or upside down e (Ə). Type 018F and then hit Alt-X.

First off that upside down e is called a schwa, and to make it you press and hold down the alt key while typing 0399 on the number pad, it must be done on the number pad or it will not work. The combination of keys can also be referred to as Alt+0399.
