Spray the mildew with a 1:1 solution of water and household bleach. Work in a well ventilated area and wear a mask and protective clothing.

Wear a mask, rubber glove, have the window open for ventilation, use soap and bleach in warm water and use a mildly abrasive bathroom sponge. Repeat until gone and I recommend you paint the wall with a anti-mildred or mildew resistant paint.

Your best bet is vinegar and water. Bleach would work but I'm not so sure it would do it without staining the walls up. Vinegar is relatively safe for use on anything and kills molds and odors naturally. It's also non-abrasive so it won't scratch up the plaster.
