There are a few considerations that must be taken in order to find the right size cue stick. First, your height plays an important factor. The taller you are the longer your cue. Also, the length of your arms factors into your choice.

Beginning players will find a heavier cue will give them more power on the break and will allow them to get more spin. More seasoned players benefit from the greater control a lighter cue provides. Remember that weight, not length, is the determining factor.

A good pool cue will have a good weight to it. It shouldn't feel too heavy or too light. If you feel like you're trying too hard to hold to pool cue get a lighter stick. Also make sure your cue is not bowed.

Cue stick size is all about the feel. It should be long enough that you can get a full swing and just heavy enough to be comfortable.

Find whatever feels right for you. Try out a bunch first and weight might actually be more important. Just use whatever is most comfortable for you.

Most professionals recommend the pool cue being the length of your arm. As for the weight, this is all preferance, most professionals tend to go with a heavier weight for breaking, and a lighter one for english shots.
