You will have to complete several hundred hours of training and education, usually in the form of an apprenticeship, then register with the appropriate organization: the American Herbalist's Guild, the National Herbalists Association of Australia, the Irish Institute of Medical Herbalists, or National Institute of Medical Herbalists in the U. K.

There is a course work involve in being a herbalist. This falls under holistic or alternative medicine category. You need to visit and speak with someone who is currently practicing. You can find a school near you that teaches it. Financial aid does not cover the classes. You also need to take and pass a registry exam.

It would depend on the location on where you are looking to be licensed. Some cities to not require registration but some places like California require extensive registration tests.
