I am knew at school and would like to try out for the team to make friends.

They are fairly simple. The object is to put to ball through the opponent's goal. This is mainly done by passing and dribbling the ball close enough to shoot.

The basic rules of basketball aren't very difficult to learn. You should be able to learn everything in a few weeks. Make sure you understand traveling violations; such as carrying, double dribbling and walking. Also learn what the violations on defense are. That should cover most basic knowledge.

My advice is this...Make friends FIRST. Trying out for a sport does not make you friends. Especially if you do not know how to play the game. Instead try this...Find someone who looks like they know what they are doing, and let them know you want to learn how to play. He/She will feel great teaching you the game.

Most basketball rules are fairly simple. Keep the ball within the lines. You have to dribble if you want to move with the ball. You can pass the ball in the air or by bouncing it to another player. Also when you don't have the ball you may not make excessive contact with the other player.

It's a fairly easy sport to learn. Dribble, Shoot, don't stop dribbling and start dribbling again. Those are a few and at a young age there aren't many more.
