According to legend, Mary didn't "die" but was instead "assumed" into heaven. Her body went to sleep ("dormition" or sleep unto death) then both body and soul rose to heaven.

The scriptures do not tell us how Mary died. There are stories and legends that are passed down through tradition, but very little that can be backed up by history.

It is not noted in any scriptures how or when she died, but it is common belief that she died a natural death.

No one can know for certain. The Catholic Church and some Orthodox and Anglicans teach that she was "assumed" or taken up into heaven at the end of her natural life, on account of her sinlessness, but they are unclear about whether she died first or not at all. The circumstances surrounding this event remain unknown.
