How can you treat a broken or sprained foot?

I'm out of work and really can't afford to go to the doctor. What should I do?

First thing to do is to remove any clothing or jewelry around the joint affected. Apply cold compress at once to relieve the swelling or bruising. Then, you should elevate the affected joint with pillow or clothing. You can also take over the counter anti-inflammatory medication such as aspirin or ibuprofen.

Go to a public not for profit hospital emergency room and get xrays. If your foot is broken it could cause serious problems with ambulation if not treated correctly. Many public hospitals have payment plans and some even have hard case assistance. You may also qualify for State Medical Assistance.
