A ripe pineapple is brightly colored, with fresh, green, leaves. If the pineapple has bruises, brown leaves or moldy spots, don't buy it.
If you sniff the pineapple at the bottom, it should have a sweet smell.
The pineapple should feel heavy when you pick it up. It should be slightly soft to the touch, but not mushy.
