The best way to tell for sure is to have a vet check it. They will have the mare palpated, which involves feeling her to determine the firmness of her tissue in her abdomen. It may be difficult to tell without a doctor because horses will not show much enlargement until the last three months of pregnancy.

You'll start to notice some lethargicness in her and she will definitely eat more. Also, they start to show pretty soon after it happens.

Have a veterinarian come to wherever your horse is stationed and check her out, have her get an ultrasound on her stomach, and see if she has gained weight. The weight comes from her eating more and losing some of her ability to run while pregnant. If she was already overweight, then you cannot use this as a clue.

She will probably start to eat more and gain weight. She will get kind of a pot belly. They also make pregnancy tests for horses or you can call your Vet too. They can also tell you if your mare is in foal.

when i come to know that my mare is pregnant,i will call vetenary doctor and tell him that my mare is pregnant and i will ask him what should i follow to take care of my mare. then i will inform to the rider that mare is pregnant,so don't use her for riding.

This is difficult to determine. It is best to call in the vet about eight weeks after the mare has been bred. The vet will don a long rubber glove and actually feel inside the horse's vagina to detect if the pregnancy has taken. He can also help you if there are twins.
