How can you open a clogged nostril?

Whenever I have clogged nostrils, I usually try a hot rag compress on the clogged side of my nose and sinus area. It seems to relieve some of the pressure as well as drain the nose out. I've used Afrin spray successfully, but I despise nose sprays - they burn!

Vicks applied thickly right under the nose then get under the covers for about twenty minutes or you can close yourself up in the bathroom and take a hot steaming bath.

You can try simple saline nasal drops. If this is not sufficient, you can try nasal irrigation such as a Netipot or Sinus Rinse bottle. Also, a humidifier may help with this. For a little extra help, a decongestant like Sudafed may help or a antihistamine like Zyrtec if due to hay fever.

My favorite medicine is a nasal spray called Afrin. It immediately soothes and clears the nostrils. However, you can only use it for a couple days or you become dependent.

Clogged nostrils could be from your house being dry or to warm even allergies. Have you tried an over the counter allergies medicine? If this is something that's been going on for a while call your doctor it could be something serious. Also check with your doctor if you are taking any other medicines before taking anything.
