Send a letter to Direct Marketing Association, Mail Preference Service, P.O. Box 282 Carmel, NY 10512 Include the names of all persons receiving mail at your address. Include a $1.00 fee with the letter. Mail to "resident" or "occupant" cannot be stopped.

The National Do Not Mail registry is a free service to assist in stopping junk mail. You can visit websites that cover this subject, but most charge a fee. As for emails, creating a block list for spammers helps. In reality, junk mail is here to stay.

Google "stop junk mail" and check out the various offerings for kits and instructions on how to stop junk mail. There is no government-sponsored effort. The USPS WANTS junk mail. Essentially, you must write or call each junk-mailer and tell them to remove your name from the list.

You need to contact the National Do Not Mail List. That is for starters. But it's not just the Clearing House. Remember when you order from any catalog, your name and address is likely given to Abacus. This is the main national list, contact then with your name along with middle initial to be removed.

Call the company and demand that they remove your name. It can sometimes be difficult to do, but keep trying.
