How can I tell what kind of turtle I have?

You can tell what type of turtle you have by the shell it has. Different types of turtles have different colors and patterns on their shells. Some even have different shapes of shells. Another way to tell what kind of turtle you have is through the environment it lives in. Some live in only water, others live on land.

The fastest way would be to google turtles and match yours with a photo of one. You can also go to the library and get a book on turtles.

They have some really great books on the subject at the library or you can go online and do some research on turtle species and if you do it online they will give you pictures of the different kinds as well as info on each different species that you find.

The shell is the easiest place to start. Look at the top shell and the bottom shell. Also the colors. What colors are they? The tail is another great clue. Be careful. Some turtle bite.
