Border Collies are natural herders, but often recognize chickens as prey and try to eat them. At first, you should let your dog near the chickens while on a leash to see if he naturally tries to herd them, if he ignores them, or if he tries to eat them.

You can teach the dog by keep him or her distance to not rush in. Then try to keep him behind you and chickens so wont want to bit them from a distance.

You need to take the dog to training school to get it trained. The dog trainer can train the dog to herd chickens. Or get a book on it to find out how.
