I would suggest keeping a strict budget. Calculating your income, the percentage you would like to save (normally 60%) and using only 40% (cash only, don't use plastic!)

Clipping coupons, comparison shopping, reviewing newspaper advertisements, negotiating for a lower price, shopping at discount stores, avoiding unncessary purchases, and searching for internet deals all help curb over spending.

You budget, carefully, and avoid your credit cards. Draw money out of your bank before you go shopping, take a calculator with you and DO NOT SPEND ANY MORE. Don't spend money besides necessities and bills until AFTER you have the next paycheck, and then that's yous to spend. If possible put a little money in a savings account.

First, shop without credit/bank cards.Go with a set amount of cash. If confronted with an 'impulse' buy, walk away and go back after several days. This gives time to evaluate need.
