It is probably best to call the prison your boyfriend is in and ask them for the details, as they will also have some rules on what you can and can't send in letters. You might also need to know your boyfriend's prisoner number.

To send a letter to someone in prison you will need the full address of the prison and the inmate's identification number. The inmate's i.d. number should be places directly after their name, on the same line, followed by the prison name on the next line, and the rest of the address in standard form.

The exact policies concerning mail vary with the prison. In general, however, you will need to know his department of corrections number and address it to him by name, with this number, as well, at the prison.

All inmates are allowed to receive mail. Contact the facility and ask how to send letters to the inmate. Keep it clean: you don't know who'll see it.
