How can I make my flute playing sound less airy?

Take the time to play long, sustained notes while trying to produce the clearest sound possible. Experiment with mouth shape etc. to find what makes the clearer sound and slowly work your way through a scale.

check to make sure the pads underneath the keys have not worn down that can cause the sound quality to change and make sure that your embouchure is tightened so the air path is flowing directly into the flute and not across

Control the amount and angle of which you blow air into the flute. The way you hold your mouth to the flute can cause this too.

First, check that your flute is in good working order! Often "airy" playing has to do with a poorly maintained instrument. Next, work on breathing-take a deep breath, and practice holding a note, any note, as long as you can, with a good steady, clear tone.

When blowing into your flute, relax your lower lip against the lip plate as you pull the center of your top lip down toward the hole. This will focus your air stream down into the instrument rather than across the opening.

Your air stream needs to be more focused and better aimed. Tighten your embouchure and experiment just with the head joint to find the angle that works best.

i have been a flutist for eight years. And as i am reading suggestions, what i found is that you harden your diaphram and blow air softly. What i do is play my chromatic scale while doing this and slowly you get used to it. your quality will get good

I have been a flutist for about 14 years. The way you blow into your flute is most important, the aim of the air to the flute.
