How can I make an outlet independent of a light switch?

You can either bypass the switch by tapping the line and load together with a wire-nut or you can remove and jump the switch-leg at the outlet itself.

Assuming they're both already wired for the switch to control the outlet, there are two ways to do that: You can pigtail off the light switch so the outlet always has power or you can run a new wire from your circuit breaker or fuse box to the outlet.

Make sure the power is off. Take #12 or #14 gauge wire and simply wire up your outlet with ground, hot and neutral wires to the correct poles. Then, install your switch with the black or hot wire from your outlet and put it on the hot side of your switch.

If the outlet is supplied with only three wires coming from the switch, bypass the switch at the switch box by connecting the two wires that are on the switch. If the outlet has multiple wires in the box determine which ones are constantly hot and use them, disconnecting the wire coming from the switch.

Well you can make the outlet independent if you just have different wires connecting to the light switch and a different wire connecting to the outlet. This will make both of these processes independent of each other. However this may not be very wise because they should having an interconnecting wire.

Well, you want to ensure that you have all of the power turned down. Then you will take a gauge wire and hook it up your outlet from the ground. Install your switch accordingly using the hot wire switch and make sure you pull it to the side so that it is not in the outlet area.
