Imparting backspin on shots is a simple process. You hit down on the ball and trap it against the ground. The grooves of the club grab the cover of the ball and impart backspin. The benefits are two fold; higher shots and softer landings on the green. It is also reccommended to use a ball with a soft cover.

You probably cannot " learn " putting backspin on your ball. Backspin occurs naturally when the ball is very well hit with a lot of club speed using a lofted golf club such as a pitching wedge. That club head speed with the loft creates such spin on the ball that the ball backs up on the green.

Address the ball with your hands ahead of the ball, allowing you to strike the ball on the downswing. This forces the ball to spin backward up the club face.

Backspin is generated by making ball first then ground contact, and by generating a high enough swing speed, with a softer ball and clean grooves. The best way to learn how to do this consistently is to work on golf fundamentals. Learn to hit down on the ball, not sweep it. Develop a consistent swing.
