Help organize litter patrols and park cleanups. This will become an increasing problem as cities cut back on parks and recreation staff to meet tighter budgets. You could also organize a "food bank garden", where all produce raised goes to the food bank - local food production decreases gas usage and helps improve the local area.

Recycle every month or as scheduled for pickup or drop off in your town to reduce landfill overflow and help reuse plastic, paper and metal over again. Use recycling bags as much as possible. Car pooling also helps to ease gas expenses and cuts back on emissions into the air.

You can continue to recycle as much as possible. This helps reduce waste and makes you feel good. You can also pick up bottles for recycling or other trash that you see lying around outside.
