Question by  ellerbellerz (141)

How can I help my 15-year-old brother swallow pills?

I've tried having him take them in applesauce and pudding, but he says he still can't do it. He's going to start a long-term everyday pill with no chewable or drinkable substitutes.

I would try crushing the pill into a powder form then adding it to something for him to ingest. Although be sure to check with his doctor about doing this as some medications are meant to dissolve slowly.

The best thing to do is take the pill and grind it into pieces. Dissolve it into water and let it sit for like 5 minutes. Mix it in with water. This works well.

Pills are easier to swallow if they are cut in half or even into quarters. Pill cutters are easy to use and are sold at pharmacies.

Try crushing the pill before mixing it with liquid or food. The powder should be easier to swallow than a big tablet.
