If you want to go a few shades lighter, I'd recommend some of the box dyes you can find at a drugstore. Use the temporary ones because the chemicals aren't as harsh and won't do any damage to already dyed hair.

There are a couple of things you can do for this problem. You can add highlights yourself. If you do this "color breaks" by Clairol is a good product. You can also highlight your hair by just using a permanent hair color a couple of shades lighter that your own. This will give your hair a naturally lightened effect.

You must wait at least two weeks from you dyed your hair before applying a lightener to your hair. Once your ready apply highlights to soften the look.

When hair is dyed, it's then only one color and looks unnatural. Natural hair usually is made up of many different shades. A few highlights lighten the overall appearance of dyed hair and gives the hair a natural, multi-colored look, suggesting a more sun-kissed appearance. If your hair is damaged, hot oil treatments are recommended before highlighting.
