Well, you have to get training and prove that you are capable of fixing guns. Some kind of experience is essential into developing a customer base. You can start by advertising on craiglist.

You can ask to apprentice/study under an existing-technician (like at a dealer/repair-shop); Find a trade-school offering appropriate-classes; Enlist in the military; or Read books, order supplies, experiment/practice, meet with experts (like at trade shows), get a Federal (ATF.Gov) dealer or manufacturer license, start your-own-business, and become self-taught.

The military has a lot of programs involving this. It would be a good idea to talk to a nearby military recruitment center or office and ask if they offer any programs that allow you to train and get a degree in gun technician training. Because of the GI Bill program in the USA, it could be a free program

One way is to work for a gunsmith and learn the trade. However, most likely the best option is to enroll in a trade school that offers a gunsmithing course. The NRA would be a good source for available schools.

Typically you will need to apprentice under a gun smith or gain entry level employment for a large gun manufacturer.
