Detectives work in law enforcement and are first patrol officers before being promoted. Forensics is a course of study after high school. Programs are offered for an Associate Degree and higher. Your education plan should be based on your career goals with a specific department. Requirements will vary from one employer to another.

There are different schools you can attend to become a private one, but their training is suspect. If your interest is in police work, you have to pass an exam be appointed to detective. If you have a college degree before you become a police officer, all this will be easier.
