Does the Volvo fuel pump relay control the fuel gauge?

The fuel pump relay is an electrical device that switches on the fuel pump when the ignition is turned to on. The fuel gauge is located inside the tank and is unrelated.

The fuel relay should have nothing to do with the fuel gauge. It simply acts as a secondary switch to make the fuel pump run. The fuel gauge should be the fuel sending unit found in the tank.

No it does not. If you are having a problem with the gauge it is most likely the tank. You have a sensor in the tank and it reads how full the tank is. You will probably need to replace that and then see if your gauge is working. Hope this helps.

The fuel pump relay is a high current switch operated by a low-current circuit in the PCM. So the answer is no. The PCM measures the fuel level.

You sly fox! You have discovered the whole Swedish design philosophy. This kind of technology made Volvo competitive. Of course now you have exposed it and Volvo is toast.

Yes it does, I would be careful before you begin to make repairs on this if you have a newer modal car. Most of the gauge's on newer cars require a dealer or mechanic to hook it up to a computer to fix issue that might have arisen.

No. There should be a separate relay controlling the fuel gauge. The fuel pump relay should only control the fuel pump.

A relay cannot control a rheostat gauge. The fuel pump relay only turns power on and off to the fuel pump itself. The gauge is on a separate system.

The pressure from the pump and fuel should meet the manufacturers requirements. There are certain Volvo models require 55 to 61 psi of pressure measured with engine off.

Relays are used to control higher current components with a lower current. The relay just controls the power to the pump. The tank sending unit is what controls the gauge.
