Does Engleman spruce disease start with a yellowing of terminal branches?

Yes it does and then the branches will slowly turn brown. Once this happens there is no hope left for the tree. You can do a net search and it will give you all the information and detail you are looking for.

These trees are endemic to this area of Colorado and are not "cared for", and summer has been wet. Perhaps it is a fungal disease. A knowledgeable arborist looked at the tree and thought it was a common natural phase. I will watch and see. Thanks.

Though diseases are possible, yellowing of a tree may indicate that there is water sitting at its roots. If the needles turn yellow you might have to prevent water from getting to its roots for a while. It is best to ask a local arborist to help you identify the problem.

Yellowing of branches can mean many things in trees. It can mean the leaves are dried up due to lack of water, lack of sun, or over exposure to sun. This could be a disease, but it is highly unlikely. It would most likely be a care issue before a disease.
