Petunias are heavy feeders, so it may be that they need an extra boost of liquid fertilizer. Too much or too little water can cause yellow foliage, as can too much shade. Neglecting deadheading can also cause the plant to decline as it attempts to make seed.

This is due to nitrogen or iron deficiency. This is called chlorosis and additional iron or iron sulfate can help. You need to consult your local garden center for a nutritional additive specific to your soil and climate conditions. Mulch can help, as wet root conditions can add to this condition.

Regular watering is essential. If they wilt often, they'll die back. Too much water (dump the pot saucer)and the roots will drown. If water isn't the problem, try a little soluble plant food (general formula). If still yellow, turn the leaves over and look for small insects.

usually Petinia's like nitrogen rich animal manure soils. prepare the garden bed a few weeks in advance by pitting cow manure and bung in a bit of lime.

One reason may be, they are being over-watered, they do not require a lot of water. You may try pruning your plant back,(moderately to severely), repotting in new, fresh soil. Make sure your pot has drainage holes as well, petunias don't like wet feet.
