Does double vision require an MRI or a brain scan?

This is only something a doctor can tell you. There are many reasons for double vision. Some are sinus infection, diabete and migraines. If you suffer from any of these see your doctor.

I would say not always if it can be diagnosed in another way. But to look for any tumors, it probably would be used.

Double vision or diplopia firstly, should be assessed by any physician, preferably an opthalmologist to exclude an ocular cause such as opthalmoplegia, retinal or choroidal problems. If there is a suspicion of an intracranial cause to the diplopia, an MRI is the better option to identify an enlarged pituitary gland.
