A stuck shift lock button is usually caused by grime build up behind the button. The most common solution is to lubricate, like WD-40, into the crack surrounding the button. Then gently prying or pull on the button, with a knife or pliers. After the button is free, reapply the lubricate until the motion is free.

Yes, the button can be replaced with a new or used one that works well. It can also be taken apart and cleaned with electronics cleaner if you are able to remove it.

The shift lock button may not be sticking at all. More likely it is the automatic overdrive solenoid or the relay for the solenoid.

There is no remedy unless you remove the lock altogether from the volvo. Best thing is to have a mechanic fix this for you.

The best thing you can do is take the shifter off and lube it up really good and make sure it is free from dirt and debris. If everything looks good make sure that the little spring inside that pops it back out is in good condition and if not you should replace it.
