I've been suffering from anxiety. And anxiety does make your blood pressure rise. This rise is only temporary and will subside. Anxiety rises your heart rate due to the feeling of like you're going to die. In reality, you are fine. Seeking help is the best option in most cases.

Anxiety causes the body to release adrenalin. One of the effects of adrenalin is a temporary increase in blood pressure but anxiety does not cause hypertension or vice versa.

In my 40's, I developed hypertension. With the new medication, I was nervous and anxious. Then there were other occsions where I would have anxiety, which would make my BP increase. I believe the decreased oxygen intake involved with anxiety, would make me breath harder and activity increases blood pressure.

I believe it is possible to go both ways. Anxiety is a big cause of hypertension due to physical implications of anxiety. However if you already have hypertension the stress can cause anxiety of the medical condition.

Anxiety can elevate blood pressure. Reducing stress with relaxation therapy, such as meditation and mind-body relaxation techniques helps; reducing environmental stress such as high sound levels and over-illumination help too.
