cleaning

Question by  Aimee (46)

Do you need to clean a spoon rest every time it is used?

I mean if it doesn't look like it has food on it?

You should wash all your kitchen implements whenever they are used, even if they do not look dirty. Something that sees high traffic - like a spoon rest - can easily harbor quite a bit of bacteria which you will then be mixing into all your food.

A few things should be alright, like pasta, but you may want to rinse it anyway.  add a comment

It would depend on the type of food that was on the spoon. If it's raw eggs or food that easily causes food poisoning I would wash the rest good. Other foods should be alright that you wouldn't have to wash after every cooking. Raw meat juices should be cleaned after each rest.

I absolutely suggest you clean it after every use. You can never be 100% sure that something loaded with bacteria hasn't been placed on it. That's the problem with germs and bacteria, you can't see them! I wipe mine down every time I'm done cleaning the kitchen for the night. Like they say better safe than sorry.

You should clean the spoon rest after each use to avoid illness. Even though it is not visible to the eye, there is remnants of food on there and bacteria can grow. The next person who uses it will digest it, and get sick.
