Is it unsanitary to reuse plastic spoons?

I got a cute spoon from my local frozen yogurt shop with a little cartoon character on the handle. It'd be a great kids spoon to reuse (after washing).

I've read that it's unsanitary to reuse plastic bottles -- you know the clear thin plastic ones that are meant for one-time use, so I'd assume the same applies to plastic cutlery.

The type of spoon you're describing is made, I think, from a different type of plastic than your typical plastic utensil, so maybe you could reuse that type, but I wouldn't -- it's not worth it.

Yes, it's unsanitary to reuse disposable plastic spoons, or any cutlery for that matter. It's because the plastic can't stand up to the soap and hot water that you'd expose it to in washing. It also may not stand up to the acidic food you might expose it to.

It is okay to re use a plastic spoon as long as you make sure you wash it thoroughly after each use.

As long as you wash the spoon thoroughly, it will probably be sanitary. However, plastic spoons are not meant to be used over a long period of time and may become worn out or warped, making them difficult to clean thoroughly. They may also not be dishwasher-safe. You could check with the shop you got it from.
