Open heart surgery for pleurisy depends on what type of pain one has. Ther will be severe chest pain for some for others it may be due to tuberculoses, cough and so on. The doctor will take some test like xray and so on and after his examination he will recomand you what type of surgery to under go.

No, pleurisy is a condition of the lungs, an infection in the lining of the lungs, it will go away with medication and rest. You may have to go on a round of steroids and antibiotics but there is no need for surgery.
