Do World Cup referees have language problems with players in view of the many nationalities among players?

Answer by  tim35 (162)

World cup referees are some of the best in the world, and despite language barriers, they always get their points across to the players, no matter what nationality they are. Most referees in the world cup are cultured enough to know at least one or two languages and most of the players do too.

Absolutely no. The rules are universal and are not pegged to a single language. Theoretically the referee need not explain anything to players. Usually exchanges will be made in English if no other language is intelligible.
