Question by  Lisa92 (49)

Do indoor cats need rabies shots?

My cat is never outdoors.

Yes. When your cat gets his rabies shot, you should get a certificate from your vet stating so. Hopefully, your cat will not bite anyone but if he does, you have proof he had his rabies shot and this can prevent problems.

Yes they do. All cats need rabies shots. Your cat still could bite something such as a mouse that has rabies and contract it herself. She could then bite a human and transmit the disease.

It's very important for your cat to receive all its vaccines and shots even if it never sets a foot outside. The reason why is to protect your cat in case it somehow did make it outside or perhaps if something managed to get inside and your cat got attacked.

No, they don't. It may be "recommended" in case your cat ever gets loose or is in contact with other cats, but it's not necessary without outside contact.

Check the laws of your state, I think it is stupid but I live in Nevada and even though my cats stay indoors like yours the state requires me to get a rabies shot every year so check with the state that you live in.
