All beetles have a jaw-like structure on their heads called mandibles that they use to grasp objects, feed and dig. Not all beetles bite, but some do so depending on the type of beetle and size of the mandibles.

Beetles are capable of biting with there mandibles. Most beetles use their powerful mandibles to subdue and overpower their prey often other insects. Very few insects target people with intent to bite. Often bites are a result of conflict or instinct i.e. you put your hand down on a beetle, it may bite in defense. It may not.

Some beetles bite. Sometimes they might mistake you for food, or they might be getting defensive if they are being squashed. Wood-boring beetles have large mandibles and can bite and hang on. Most beetles aren't agressive, and don't bite you intentionally. Most beetles have mouth parts that are so small they can't hurt you even if they bite.
