Not normally no. They need a guiding hand to wean themselves from anything. I think what you have heard was a exaggeration. Btw I'm a mother of 4

I have never seen a baby wean themself it takes a lot of dedication on the mothers behalf but the trasition can be without distress on either side.

No. At the same time, all babies are not the same. Sometimes the quality and taste of breastmilk may change with time and some babies may wean by themselves. Some baies are hard to wean off.

I do not think they do. It takes two to wean, you and baby. My niece still plays with my sister's boobs for comfort even though she is 3.
