Do anchors always work with a pulley?

As far as I know they do. I would think that you would need the anchor to hook to the pulley to make it work.

Because most boats use anchors in large bodies of water, the only practical way of using an anchor is with a pulley that can wrap up the long cable or chain that attaches the boat to the anchor. There is also a mechanical advantage of using a pulley that can reduce the strain on the boat.
