Can you turn your "check engine" light off by turning the ignition on and off 5 times?

the answer is NO. you could probable try that with a service light on. however check engine light usually has to do with a failure of the emission system also called the EGR. you could also try disconnecting the battery. that will restart your ECU in the car. Check the leaks in the EGR or replace the worn parts

No, this does not work because the problem does not go away just ebcause you shut the engine off 5 times. The problem needs to be diagnosed and fixed.
