Question by  ouprobablylackthedisciplinetosti (64)

How do I fix the hazard lights on my 1996 Subaru if they will not turn off?

The hazards have been blinking for days, which started during a heavy rainstorm. When I turned the windshield wipers on, the lights turned on and never turned back off.

It sounds like you have an electrical short. You need to find a qualified mechanic whose specialty is electrical systems. You also need to check your seals. The storm probably let water in to your switches.

This is a quite extensive electrical problem that may or may not be easy to fix. One quick solution is to pull the fuse. However if you want them back to normal you will probably need to bring it to the dealership as these electrical problems will only be for the seriously advanced car repair enthusiast.

Sounds like an electrical problem and it'll require a mechanic to fix, a quick fix for you however is to locate your fuse box and pull out the hazard one.

Start by checking all the fuses and relays pertaining to the headlights, hazards, wipers, and turn signals. It's possible that at least one has gone bad. If they are all good then it's a wiring issue and it's probably worth your money to let a mechanic track it down.
