Yes, because they take the same Hippocratic Oath doctors do. And unlike doctors who may be under pressure to control costs, pharmacists are paid to provide only the medicine you request, whether it is brand name or generic.

Yes, you can normally trust pharmacists. Many pharmacists have post-doctoral education, qualifying them to give medical and prescription advice to patients. They are also much more accessible than doctors in most cases.

Your pharmacist is the best resource for medication questions, either OTC or prescriptions. They know about specific drugs and can make recommendations regarding OTC medications for certain problems.

Pharmacists are knowledgeable about a lot of things in regard to drugs. They professionally know the limits of the advice they can give you, however.

Pharmacists went to college to learn their trade, so they should have a fairly good idea what they're talking about but it is always good to get second opinions especially if what the pharmacist says contradicts advice you got from a nurse practitioner or a doctor. Make sure you describe your symptoms as accurately and completely as possible to them.
